The orange jumpsuit really didn't suit her complexion. But, then, they're not exactly intended to be fashion statements. The slow steps with which she moved, her lank hair and sunken cheeks weren't her either.
I frowned as she took a seat across from me, "What were you thinking?" I tried to sound curious instead of judgmental.
I needn't have tried. She simply lifted a shoulder listlessly, dismissing my question. "Nothing, really."
Her appearance already had me so shaken, her attitude disturbed me even more, "Then why?"
She lifted her eyes to meet mine, and there was such pain in their blue gray depths, so much strain that had pushed her to the breaking point, I had to look away. Shame that I hadn't seen her pain sooner filled me. Could I have helped? I had no way of knowing, but I wished I'd been able to try.
Her quiet voice emphasized the hopelessness of her response, "What's it matter?"

Wind Whistler Investigates (MLP G1)
This is a prequel of sorts to (my headcanon of) the original G1 series. Many years before Firefly was the best stunt flyer Dream Valley had ever seen and Wind Whistler its most accomplished scientific mind, there was... something like this!
-----
“The legendary Firefly zooms through the clouds at lightning speed! The awed crowd below cheers in… awe! Hey, I don’t have writers.”
In truth, the blue-furred pegasus was far from the cloud layer high above, and even farther from any listeners, who’d surely have laughed at her narration.
“Watch as she performs the dreaded Tempest Twist! Then, she launches into t

Storm over Appleloosa Ch 3
The following morning, the storm was still ongoing, but it had died down to a few blustery winds and a light rain.
Billy woke up first with a light snort followed by a yawn. Without really moving his head, he took a quick glance around the cave. For the most part, it looked pretty much the same as he remembered it from last night, the only major differences were that the lanterns had burnt out and the puddle around Score and Hoops had gotten bigger, and yet, his two friends still slept as soundly as ever.
"Seriously? How do those two stand it?" Billy asked himself mentally has he shifted his head slightly as he tried getting comfortable on

There Is No Friendship In Conflict 1
There is no friendship in conflict.
Clove
He's been playing us all along! he thinks he can get away with that? unlikely... "so you thought you could come away unscathed, after playing us? learning our secrets, our weaknesses and your girl out after what she did?!" Cato is screaming at Peeta there is no doubt he deserves it but something is wrong. Cato wasn't exactly the calmest person but he could (just) control himself now...not so much... he's snapped, I realize he has good reasons I mean Tracker Jackers aren't exactly the friendliest creatures but this is risky, if this continues someone could hear us, take advantage of this situation. This was written for a challenge I posted in my journal a long time ago.
No one really took me up on the challenge until recently, when ~FLPQueen did with What was he thinking.
The challenge is here.
Just so you don't have to go following bunches of links, the summary of the challenge is this:
Dialogue all by itself is just like talking heads, as pointed out in *Auriethepixie's blog entry. You have to have action.
So, the challenge was to take a bit of dialogue I provided, and write it into a scene, just to show how many different ways the same dialogue can go.
The dialogue provided for the challenge was this:
"What were you thinking?"
"Nothing, really."
"Then why?"
"What's it matter?"
